If you thought that pirate attacks were a matter of movies, you were wrong. Reality often exceeds fiction. This has been demonstrated again and again by the great finds and the ruins of different architectural works that were created for the defense of a civilization. Among these ruins that were once used in battle, is Alexander's fort. Fortress in San Petersburgo, this is how this fort built on an artificial island was known. But to not ruin the story, we invite you to know a little about this place.
The Alexander Fort: Fortress in St. Petersburg
At the eastern end of the Gulf of Finland, in the Baltic Sea, there is a city that was once protected by a large number of forts. We talk about the city of St. Petersburg. All these forts formed a long chain that surrounded all the gulf although the majority were constructed very near the island of Kotlin, to about 35 kilometers of Saint Petersburg. Each of these forts had only one mission. Protect the cities from any enemy attack.
The fortresses were built after the inauguration of St. Petersburg, very close to the start of the great 1700 war. The construction of these forts continued for more than 200 years later. Around 40 of these forts were raised on artificial islands by orders of Russia on the north and south coasts of the Gulf of Finland.
Among that group of strengths is perhaps the most famous of all. Its about Great Alexander Fort. Fortress in St. Petersburg, which was built in 1838 by orders of Emperor Nikolai I in the name of his brother Alexander I. This fortress is anchored in the seabed thanks to several piles that have a length of about 15 meters.
The Alexander Fort measures 90 meters long and 60 meters wide, enough space to house more than 1000 people thanks to it also has three floors high. Alternatively to this, the fort has more than one hundred emplacements for cannons. And secret cabinets on the roof where they hid more than 30 guns.

The Alexander I fort never had the need to participate in any war. So we can not know if he really had endured it. However, during the war of Crimea this fort served as a great protection for the Russian naval base of Kronstandt when the Royal Navy between other French fleets began to attack it. After this, the great strength lost its importance at the defense level but its historical value is still very significant.
At the beginning of the 1900 I happened to serve as a scientific laboratory for the investigation of various deadly diseases but this only worked for 17 years since it was then handed over to the Russian Navy to serve as the official installation of the navy. Then in 1983 it was completely abandoned and later at the end of the 90 years it became a place for parties. Who would say, today the great fort of Alexander is a great nightclub that invites thousands of tourists all year round.
