The Mir mine was opened in 1957. His name means "peace" in Russian. With dimensions of 1.2 kilometers long and 525 meters deep, it seems the same entrance to hell.
The secret and mystery that inspire this mine have opened speculation of all kinds.
Since it is a portal to the darkest hells, to the headquarters of secret experiments of the Soviet Union.
The truth is that the airspace around this diamond reef is closed because it "absorbs" helicopters and airplanes that fly around it. It is due to the air currents generated by the hole .. Truly disturbing ..
But the reality is simpler than all that, Mir's mine has been the most profitable hole in history. In the 60 years of the last century, mining produced 2 tons of diamonds a year and of great quality. From there, the city of Mirny, near the mine, received the name of the "Diamond City".
The wealth generated by Mir contributed to the recovery of the USSR after World War II. In 1981, one of the largest diamonds in the world was found with 342,57 carats and yellow.
Interestingly, it was discovered on the same day that the 26º Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union was held receiving that name.
In the 90 years after the fall of the USSR, the mine was managed by the Russian company ALROSA, the world's leading diamond mining company.
In order to explore the quarry in the terrible conditions of the Siberian winter, the extraction machines used jet and dynamite engines to prevent freezing.
In 2011 this open pit closed due to changes in the extraction techniques of this precious mineral.
Now, they are made in underground tunnels with drilling machines. Even so, Mir's legend remains in the collective memory of Russians and citizens from around the world.
Dear Russian Lover, do you feel like taking a look at Mir's hole? Don't worry, there is no danger of falling into the underworld!
